Nordic Ukrainian Film Festival is back with a fourth edition!
Once again Swedish film enthusiasts of all ages and tastes have a fantastic opportunity to discover new and exciting Ukrainian films. Our primary intention is to share with you the most recent feature films that were developed on the Ukrainian art-scene through the year. All of them are from various genres and reflect diverse historical legacies through multiple imaginative length. One of our aims in preparing this festival was to share this intense plurality, richness of topics and styles of representation with the Swedish audience.
The festival, organised by the Ukrainian Institute of Sweden in collaboration with Filmstaden, takes place 29 November to 2 December 2018. All films are shown at Saga Bio, Kungsgatan 24, Stockholm.

The Wild Fields – a film adaptation of Serhyi Zhadan’s novel Voroshylovhrad – follows the 33-year-old Herman Koloyov and his meaningless job in the big city. One day he gets a strange call and learns that his older brother has mysteriously disappeared. Herman must go back to his hometown to defend the family business – a small gas station (and with it, old friends and a girlfriend from the past) – against the “kukuruzniks”, mafia-type gangs that are grabbing up businesses and land in the Donbas region and turning them into corn fields and railways that lead nowhere. 2 hours│Adventure, Comedy, Drama

The Stronghold is a Ukrainian adventure/fantasy film based on the same-name book. During the solar eclipse, the ordinary boy Vit’ko moves in time by a thousand years back – up to the days of Kyivan Rus’ into the center of the decisive struggle between good and evil. In his hands will be a magic stone that gives absolute power; at his side – the legendary heroes, and on the opposite side of the barricade – black magic and an army led by a giant stone monster. The Noble Tramps is a musical with the elements of comedy and action movie. It tells a story of Lviv batiars (noble tramps) who live with the slogan: “To love Lviv, women and jokes”. To make their life bright, they resort to various adventures. Unexpectedly the batiars become guardians of a young Lvivianka Khrystia and their adventures are gaining new momentum. In the eastern region of Donbass, a hybrid war blends open armed conflict, crimes and looting perpetrated by separatist gangs. In Donbass, war is called peace, propaganda is erected in truth and hate claims to be love. A journey through the Donbass is a series of crazy adventures in which the grotesque and the tragic mingle like life and death.
